Chapel of the Virgin Mary in the Mountains near Česká Třebová
Above Česká Třebová, in the wooded area known as “Na Horách,” stands the pilgrimage chapel of the Virgin Mary, built in 1819 in the Neoclassical style. The chapel stands above a spring whose water, according to legend, is believed to have miraculous healing powers.
The chapel is shrouded in many legends. One of them tells of a Hungarian officer who hid in the crown of an oak tree before a battle. In gratitude for being saved, he hung on the tree a picture of the Virgin Mary. Years later, he visited the place again and had a wooden chapel built. The chapel was solemnly consecrated on 7 July 1839 by the Hradec Králové bishop Karel Hanl. It is accessible year-round. Parking is available nearby.
