Kostel sv. Jana Nepomuckého na Vrchní Orlici Orlické hory

Church of St. John of Nepomuk in Vrchní Orlice

In the midst of the meadows and forests of the Orlické Mountains, on the site of the former German settlement of Vrchní Orlice, stands the Baroque Church of St. John of Nepomuk. It is the only surviving structure from the vanished village.

It was built between 1708 and 1712 on the site of the original cemetery chapel, and in 1770 a tower was added. After the chaotic post-war expulsion of the inhabitants, the church fell into disrepair, and in the 1970s and 1980s the interior was looted. Since 2011, it has been undergoing gradual restoration and today serves as a venue for cultural events, exhibitions, and concerts. The church is freely accessible. Parking is available by the road between Bartošovice in the Orlické Mountains and Orlické Záhoří, from where a short walk leads to the church.
