Doudleby nad Orlicí Chateau
Doudleby nad Orlicí Château is among the most fascinating Renaissance monuments in the Czech Republic. At first glance, it captivates with the rich sgraffito decoration of its façades, which gives the place an unmistakable character and can’t be found anywhere else in the world. Combined with its preserved interiors, a beautiful château park, a natural history museum, château wine, and a little courtyard with animals, it’s an ideal stop for day-trippers of all generations.

The château was built at the end of the 16th century by Mikuláš the Elder of Bubna. It originally served as a summer residence. Later it was used as a hunting lodge. An interesting fact is that the Bubna family (later Bubna of Litice) has owned the building continuously to this day, with the exception of the years 1948–1993.
Though modest in size, the château itself is unique not only thanks to the exterior sgraffito decorations that adorn not just the façades but also the chimneys and the inner and outer elevations, but also thanks to the rich interior decoration. On the walls you will find frescoes with mythological and religious motifs, or Baroque emblems that take the form of short riddles. You can see servants’ quarters, a gentlemen’s and a ladies’ drawing room, the great hall, the hunting room, the hall of mirrors, and the château chapel.
The Château Winery
In 2020, the château winery began writing its intoxicating story. It was then that the current owner, Petr Dujka, a descendant of the Bubna of Litice family, together with family and friends, decided to plant the first 300 vine stocks so that in the future he could reap the fruits of success bottled under the Bubna coat of arms. The vineyards are cultivated according to the rules of organic farming, certified for biodynamic operation. You can enjoy a glass of wine during the château’s opening hours in the château café, or during the farmers’ markets that are regularly held at the château.

Castles on the Orlice River
