The southernmost part of the Orlické Mountains offers excellent conditions for hiking and cycling. In winter, it’s a paradise for cross-country skiers.

Location – Orlické Mountains, Ústí nad Orlicí District, Pardubice Region.

Suchý vrch lies right on the historic provincial border between Bohemia and Moravia. It is located at the southeastern end of the Orlické Mountains, about 7 km from Jablonné nad Orlicí and 6 km from Králíky. At the mountain summit you’ll find a 33 m-high observation tower and the renovated Kramář Cottage.

The cottage offers nine four-bed apartments, two double rooms, a restaurant with traditional Czech as well as European cuisine, 2 lounges, wellness facilities, and fast food. The original cottage was built by the Czech Tourist Club from Jablonné nad Orlicí in 1924; it burned down in 2003 and was later restored to its current form. It offers accommodation, wellness and dining services. Parking is available at the cottage. The entire construction and reconstruction process, including period photographs, can be seen during a visit to the observation tower, which originally served as a water tower and dates from 1931–1932. It is open year-round. From its gallery you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of Šerlich, Králický Sněžník, the Kłodzko region, the Hrubý Jeseník Mountains with Praděd, and in good conditions also Sněžka.

Admission to the observation tower must be paid at the snack bar, where you will receive a token for entry through the turnstile.

In winter, Suchý vrch is a cross-country skier’s paradise. In the surrounding area there are three machine-groomed cross-country trails. These are ridge routes from Buková hora to Suchý vrch, to Vysoký kámen above Mladkov, and around the upper lift stations.

In the summer months it’s an ideal destination for hiking. In the area you can, for example, follow the red-marked hiking trail to the rock formation Bradlo. You can drive to Suchý vrch by car, which families with small children or visitors with health limitations will appreciate. A great option is to take a hike or cycling trip from Červenovodské Saddle.

The road to the saddle is a great driving experience in itself. The road has been refurbished with a brand-new surface, so you’ll really enjoy the drive up to the saddle from Červená Voda.

Follow the green hiking trail via Prostřední vrch to the Hvězda shelter, and from there continue on to Suchý vrch. The route is just under 3 km long. From Suchý vrch you can also continue a bit farther to the rock formation Bradlo or all the way to Bouda Fortress.

Cycling enthusiasts will certainly appreciate several routes of Singltrek Suchák. It is a network of trails with a total length of about 22 km, set into the slopes of Suchý vrch. Put your riding skills to the test and enjoy the fun of the descent in beautiful nature.
