Grandma’s little courtyard at Doudleby nad Orlicí Castle
At first glance, Doudleby nad Orlicí Château captivates with its richly sgraffitoed façade and picturesque courtyard. But those who come here with children usually head a few steps further on to Grandma’s Little Farmyard, which combines the charm of the countryside with the warmth of a family-friendly setting.
The farmyard is located right in the castle’s estate complex, next to the Museum of Natural History, Rural Life and Tramping, which is another great stop for families with children. Both are just a stone’s throw from the castle. Grandma’s Little Farmyard offers a hands-on space with animals that today’s city kids tend to know more from fairy tales than from everyday life. You’ll find chatty geese and ducks, hens, and fluffy rabbits. Feeding the animals is strictly forbidden, but taking a photo or petting the farmyard’s star—Andrej the llama—is allowed. The atmosphere here is homely and very welcoming—just as you’d imagine when visiting Grandma on the farm. Grandma’s Little Farmyard is also suitable for school trips and has facilities for larger groups of children.
The castle is surrounded by a beautifully maintained park. In the shade of its mature trees, you can simply relax or wander through it at your leisure and enjoy all its nooks and corners. It’s also convenient for parents with strollers. If you get a craving for something tasty, stop by the castle café. You can also sample wine from the castle vineyards, and if you like it, feel free to buy a few bottles to take home.
Entry to Grandma’s Little Farmyard is free. If you’d like to contribute to the animals’ food and care, you’ll find a donation box by the exit from the farmyard.
