Lanšperk Castle
The ruins of Lanšperk Castle rise on a wooded hill above the valley of the Tichá Orlice near Ústí nad Orlicí. It was probably founded in the mid-13th century at the behest of King Přemysl Otakar II as an important guard post on the country route from Moravia to Bohemia. But fate was not particularly kind to Lanšperk. After several conquests, the castle was gradually abandoned and began to turn into a romantic ruin, which to this day captivates with its atmosphere and beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
Today, Lanšperk attracts tourists, cyclists, and families alike for an easy trip full of history, nature, and peace and quiet. From the preserved section of the ramparts and the remains of the tower, there is a magical view of the surrounding forests and the meandering river. On site, there are information boards with the castle’s history and plans of the original fortifications. In summer, cultural events, sword-fighting performances, and smaller festivals are also held here. The castle ruins are accessible year-round free of charge. Parking is available directly in the village of Lanšperk, then it is about a 10–15 minute walk along a forest path to the ruins.
