PASTVINY DAM

If you love swimming in nature and, by the water, prefer activities other than just sunbathing, we recommend visiting the Pastviny Reservoir sometime. The dam is located about 7 km from Žamberk in the foothills of the Orlické Mountains, it is fed by the Divoká Orlice River, and 74 houses had to be demolished during its construction.

Its area is approximately 110 ha and its largest bay is Studenecká Bay.The reservoir generates electricity, protects against floods, and serves recreation. And it’s that last purpose that people make great use of. Every year countless visitors spend their holidays here in cottage areas and campsites. No wonder. It’s not overcrowded, there are great beaches, plenty of shade, and in many places easy access to the water. Within reach everyone can find plenty of refreshments in the form of kiosks and restaurants.  If you don’t want to just lie on the beach, you can rent a pedal boat, a rowboat or a paddleboard, do some fishing, or head into the surroundings for hiking. There’s also a toboggan run available and, last but not least, a whole range of evening events is held here.

For accommodation we recommend, for example, Autokemp Šlechtův palouk, which will provide you with all the facilities, or one of the cottages in the area. The view of the dam, the power plant, and the meander of the Divoká Orlice is also fantastic.

Walking around the entire reservoir takes about 4 hours, a distance of 15 km.

VEJDA’S LINDEN TREE

On your walks around the reservoir, don’t forget to visit the place called Vejdova lípa.Here you will find a memorial tree with the largest trunk circumference in the Czech Republic. The trunk circumference is listed as 13.1 m and the diameter 4.2 m. The age of the tree is estimated at 700–800 years. The hollow in the linden is split, and a small wooden treehouse has been wedged into it, from whose interior you can view the hollow of the tree. You’ll find the linden a short distance above the Pastviny Reservoir. Just take the green trail a little above the Inn U mostu along the asphalt road heading away from the parking lot by the toboggan run, across the road uphill. About a kilometer of gentle ascent awaits you. You’ll find the linden a few hundred meters to the right after you come out of the forest.

It’s huge and beautiful STOP BY.
