Pilgrimage site Rokole
The Rokole pilgrimage site, hidden in the forests near Nový Hrádek in the Orlické Mountains, is an important Marian pilgrimage destination with a rich history dating back to the 18th century. Its origin is linked to the legend of a miraculous spring which, according to tradition, healed the sick and led lost pilgrims back onto the right path.
One legend tells of a forester who saw an injured bird fall into the spring; after a while it flew out of the water healed. The astonished forester took it as a sign from God. He brought water from the spring home and washed the eyes of his blind son with it. The water healed him as well. Another legend is linked to the story of a little girl who had lost her way; in great distress and anxiety she turned to the Mother of God with a Marian prayer asking for help, and the Virgin Mary led her out of the forest by the hand. A chapel was later built above this spring.
The complex also includes a wooden Loreto with a covered ambulatory, a masonry church, and a Stations of the Cross with 14 stops. The site is accessible year-round and offers an opportunity for spiritual contemplation at any time of day. There is a parking area on the premises, providing convenient access to the pilgrimage site.
