Rotunda sv. Kateřiny Orlické hory

St. Catherine’s Rotunda

The Rotunda of Saint Catherine in Česká Třebová is the oldest surviving structure in the town and the only Romanesque rotunda in eastern Bohemia.

It was built in the first half of the 13th century and over the centuries underwent several architectural modifications reflecting styles such as Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classicism. The rotunda’s interior is adorned with an altar featuring a Late Gothic statuette of St. Catherine of Alexandria. According to legend, St. Catherine appeared with the wish that a chapel be built on the site. When people began building elsewhere, their work did not succeed, so they built the chapel in the place St. Catherine had chosen. The rotunda serves sacred purposes, and services, weddings, concerts, and other cultural events are held here.
